Dollars4Schools knows how valuable volunteers are, and we are honored to support Santa Fe Public Schools and its community of volunteers. The generous members of the community that give their time and energy in Santa Fe’s schools by helping in classrooms, libraries and with special projects are vital to the educational environment. In order to volunteer at SFPS, applicants must fill out a form, submit to a background check and get fingerprinted. Each applicant must pay $44 each. Sometimes this fee can be difficult for volunteers to pay. Dollars4Schools has created a fund to assist volunteers, many of them seniors, with this application and fingerprinting fee. SFPS volunteers are valuable, and your support is appreciated.
We are looking for a cadre of dedicated volunteers that will help our youth attain their GED (high school equivalency) while being positive role models. We are particularly looking for folks who are culturally and generationally aware of the challenges our youngsters face.
Our volunteers fulfill various roles, such as:
** Guest Speakers (think "Career Day" Q&A's or Reddit-style AMA's: "I am a Paramedic... Ask Me Anything", "I am a Substance Abuse Survivor.... Ask Me Anything") -- Usually a 1-time visit, but can also serve as a stepping stone to other roles, such as....
** Literacy Coaches (you are assigned 1-3 students who need help with GED essay writing, reading, history, mathematics or science)
** Guest Teachers (regular exercise instructors, music teachers, art teachers, etc... "regular" means 1 session/weekly, biweekly, or monthly!)
** Office Helpers (anything from copy-making to grounds-keeping, from errands around town to Information Technology!)
** 1-on-1 Mentors (think Big Brothers & Sisters: you are assigned 1 student to coach-- and not just academically!)
As you can see, we have a wide variety of roles & tasks .... and we are open to YOUR ideas based on your unique skill-set!

Early College Opportunities Applied Science High school (ECO) is seeking volunteers for the 2016-2017SY.
Part of our VISTA work takes Tom DuBois to Youth Shelters’ Street Outreach Program. In addition to hitting the streets to provide support to homeless youth, they also run a Drop-in Resource Center. Located in downtown Santa Fe at 402 South St. Francis Dr., the center is where young people can take showers, do laundry, get food, clothing, hygiene, camping and other supplies. They are also able to make phone calls, use the internet and receive help with a number of needs including taking the G.E.D., obtaining various forms of ID, filling out job applications, and securing housing. Naturally, the center’s list of needs is ever evolving and any help is always appreciated. This is a picture of their current wishlist, feel free to drop off any donations either there or at the Santa Fe Community Foundation c/o Tom DuBois.
Join SFPS Adelante Program to tutor one on one for students in the Santa Fe Public Schools who are at a high risk/homelessness situation. Just two hours of your time can keep a student in school and help him/her reach their potential!
